Macie Kerbs
CONSULTANT

After graduating with a B.A. in Elementary Education and M.Ed. in Language and Literacy from the University of South Carolina, Dr. Macie Kerbs began her teaching career in Texas. Macie taught in districts in the Fort Worth area, first as a fourth grade reading and writing teacher and as a reading specialist. In her final years in public education, Macie served as a district-wide literacy coach where she wrote literacy curriculum and customized professional learning plans for individual campus needs.

While working with students and teachers, Macie developed a deep appreciation and curiosity for the individual differences of readers. This passion for literacy teaching and learning ultimately led her to pursue her doctorate in Reading Education, which she completed in 2019 from Texas Woman’s University. Her dissertation and current research agenda explores the topics of emergent literacy, writing instruction, and teacher professional learning. Additionally, Macie has taught undergraduate courses focused on literacy methods and assessment, and graduate courses on school-wide literacy improvement, diagnosis of reading differences, and literacy coaching. Macie regularly presents at literacy conferences and her academic writing is featured across literacy journals, with the goal to help bridge that gap between theory, research, and practice.

Macie currently lives in The Woodlands, TX with her husband, three children, and two dogs.
